It is an incredible longshot that Gabbard would win the 2020 election, mostly because she is a Hindu.

In my vision of a SecularNow, one’s religion would be entirely irrelevant in seeking public offices, but it also allows for the idea that religion does help color a person’s actions, for better or worse.

What, if anything, about Hinduism might help Gabbard be a better candidate and, unlikely, a better President?

Is there any downside, specifically, to be on the look out for sue to her beliefs?

Hmmm. I don't have any objections to Gabbard being Hindu. What I object to is her history with the LGTB community. I'm all about the policy. I like that she's anti war, and I dislike that she's cozy with despots. She's weak in the same way Sanders is on foreign policy, because simply speaking out against something doesn't mean you have a cogent plan to correct it.
As for being religious as a plus in a candidate, I can't imagine a scenario where it will add to the public discourse. We have more than enough of pols now trying to insert "god" in everything. I long for the day when that is gone to the dustbin of useless superstitions where it belongs.

Assuming this reflects Gabbard's own Hinduism, I like what is said in the Āpastamba Dharmasūtra:
Virtue and vice do not go about saying - here we are!; neither the Gods, Gandharvas, nor ancestors can convince us - this is right, this is wrong; virtue is an elusive concept, it demands careful and sustained reflection by every man and woman before it can become part of one's life.
A life that is not dogmatic, that has the freedom to examine critically situations as they come? If a person must be (poly)theistic, that sort of freedom is probably the best way to go about it.

It's a good thing that her history is just that: history.

Time will tell.

Already has, judging by her voting record.
